Controlled Crack – April 30 (solved?)

Its Sys's "wakefulness" time, and as usual she has opened a controlled crack.

As usual, S extended a tentacle, but this time it was different - S referred to being chased by "the thing in the darkness" 0.0

She made a summary of the GPS missions at this page: http://thewaytheirworldended.com/A-WHOLE-BUNCH/

And, we are being treated to a very creeping and disturbing Video (also available in high quality on twtwe.com):

I can hear fragments of things in the audio, but I can't seem to make them out on these crappy speakers. Does anyone have any ideas?

EDIT:
It looks like there is something new base64 encoded on the descriptions of the other videos on the YouTube channel-

GPS Missions – April 23

On April 23rd, Essy made a bunch more missions at gpsmission.com after another hide and seek episode at STREWN-ABOUT. Below the message is another big image that looks like a puzzle board, just like BROKEN-PIECES. It looks like it'll also be filled up with the 'pieces' of the story Essy’s hidden through the gps missions. Her profile name is pricklypear.

There are eleven new missions that were made:

GPS Missions

  • The website started in the UK but is available in North America now.
  • Check out the How To Play page for instructions. There's also a Facebook application!
  • A GPS capable device is required, and a device that supports their downloadable software. iPhone is probably the best capable device. They’ve got listed:
    • NOKIA: N95, N95 8GB, 6110 Navigator, N72, N82, E90
    • SAMSUNG: SGH-i550
    • LG: KS20
    • HTC: Trinity P3600, Touch
    • ETEN: glofiish X800
    • Any Windows Mobile 5 or 6 PocketPC
    • And of course the iPhone 3G! (they have a great iPhone How-to PDF too)
  • Obviously not everyone has a capable device, so if you're in one of the mission areas, see if you can organize a team together or find someone with a device who'd be willing to do the mission.
  • GPS Missions can be up to 12 checkpoints, so make sure your battery is charged!
  • They’ve got a discussion forum too if you have questions.

I think because the last set is going so slow, we'll need to try to pool some resources and find people who aren't playing who have a supported phone to go and finish these missions!

And why are there so few people playing? We should get out there and start getting people into this! I wish all my friends weren't so boring, heh.

Looks like someone completed the first GPS mission in Central Park!
There are new images available at the BROKEN-PIECES page.
And, a bonus audio clip here!

                      Mission Log/Research for Apr.16

We have a new mission log and research note from Intimation.

                      Controlled Crack p2 - April 16

Before hibernation, Sys also logged something it found in S's tentacle when analyzing it. A datastream it can't quite understand. It came in two parts, but each looks broken into 8 parts:

                      What does it mean?

                      New info!

S updated her hiding place at READY-OR-NOT while waiting for the location to be reported to Sys.
I sure hope the rest of my hidden pieces are found soon!
Boxes, boxes, boxes. That was a fun puzzle! I think I'll make a harder one sometime.

                      It really is quiet here...
                      When I yawn, I do this: 001111000011101001001111

I wonder what's taking so long this time for sis to find me.
Maybe this will get her attention!

If you get rid of the 0's and just look at the ones, it's a Pignose! :@)

The main puzzle isn't solved yet, but people have been playing around with converting the parts. If those updates are hints, and they are base64 parts, then converted to binary, they look like this:

Other theories are that it's actually a mixed up matrix of values, or it's one big encrypted string, or something else, but it doesn't look like anyone's figured it out yet.

                      New info!

The binary blocks were actually parts of a binary image!  Put them together the right way, and once again we see:

Controlled Crack – April 15 (solved!)

Sys initiated a controlled crack early this week. Thankfully it was a good (i.e. non-violent) one, so it looks like another hide and seek and hunt for Essy!

I got a direct message through twitter when she got out of the crack.

Shhh...don't tell sis! http://thewaytheirworldended.com/BOXES/F6YRTT2754PAYT0157.png Now find the others, then come find me! :@)

                      I'm stoked!!

Looks like some other people got different messages/pictures - If you got one, comment below and link to them, let's see how this looks.

                      New info!

                      These are the pieces:

All the B pieces are blocks from a desktop puzzle.  You can see how it's put together in this video.

When put together the right way, the F pieces show what letters to use that form phrases on the website.  So what did we get?

Controlled Crack – April 9 (solved!)

Sys initiated a controlled crack again today, and it was another violent tentacle. Sys was prepared this time, so it wasn’t damaged, but thinks the primary network tentacle might have taken damage.

                      New info!

Sys tweeted that the subroutine S2 did report back saying there was a "minor hiccup in activity". S2 manages the SYS/LOG page, according to the subroutine list at the bottom of the page.

                      New info!

Sys tweeted that S2 manages all weekly ‘data dumps’ at the primary network tentacle. That may mean it works on more than just the SYS/LOG page that’s linked in the subroutine list at the bottom.

                      New info!

Sys tweeted some people in DM that the actual report from subroutine S2 said the ‘minor hiccup’ was what looks like an HTML comment:
                      <!—/—>

                      New info!

The affected page is Missionlog00.php, the list of messages that were made at the twitter before Essy was Stonewalled by Sys. I guess this is one of the dump locations S2 manages.

Each of those slashes (where the tentacle slashed at?) is located between letters in the source code. This is the list of the slashes (kind of like a tentacle itself!):

                      d<!—/—>w
                      <!—/—>a
                      t<!—/—>w
                      c<!—/—>r
                      T<!—/—>h
                      i<!—/—>e
                      o<!—/—>n
                      n<!—/—>g
                      a<!—/—>t
                      n<!—/—>l
                      d<!—/—>e
                      p<!—/—>w
                      e<!—/—>a
                      i<!—/—>n
                      t<!—/—>y
                      h<!—/—>i
                      i<!—/—>n
                      g<!—/—>a

That looks like a code, but I can't seem to make sense of it.

                      New info!

Sys tweeted that @Shad0h sent the damaged locations:

                      • WATCHING-AND-WAITING
                      • LIBRA
                      • DONT-TRUST-HER

                      Don’t trust who?

The letters for 'watchingandwaiting' read downwards through the lines, using the left or right letters.  It really is like a tentacle just took a swipe at the page!

                      GPS Missions – April 2

(updated with mission completions and results)

On April 2nd, Essy took advantage of Sys's 'crack' in the Stonewall, and she went and hid somewhere. It looks like she found the website gpsmission.com and set up a profile with a bunch of gps location-based 'missions', and describes it as the place she (or her network tentacle 'control point') 'hid' from Sys: BROKEN-PIECES. Below the message is a big image that looks kind of like a cloud. It looks like something that will be filled up with the 'pieces' of the story Essy’s hidden through the gps mission. Her profile name is pricklypear. There are five missions that were made today:

It doesn’t look like there’s a time limit on these, and Essy said that they could be replayed by people “over and over and over”. I’m guessing we’ll know when a mission’s been completed the way she wants!

Sounds like a blast - I didn't even know about the GPSMissions site, and I love Geocaching - but I don't have a phone that the site supports. Unless someone wants to send me an iPhone? *grin* Anyway, there are no missions near me, anyway.
