2009
- The AI was assigned to a research space ship called the Lewis and Clark
- The AI is named Sacagawea. Sacagawea is badly damaged by the events that brought "her" here.
- Due to this damage, Sacagawea is being protected by an entity that refers to itself as "Sys". Sys has executed the "Stonewall Protocol" (SWP) to protect Sacagawea from the world, and to protect the world from Sacagawea.
- Sys is conducting research to figure out where and when it has landed, and interacts with people through its Intimation site at Twitter. (See links at right)
- Sys is occasionally active for 24 hours (Thursdays from 00:00 UTC, or Wednesdays 7pm CDT) opening controlled "cracks" in the Stonewall to allow Sacagawea out in order to relieve pressure on its Stonewall.
- Sacagawea acts like a little girl, and likes to play Hide & Seek. She is referred to by three names: Sacagawea, "Essy", and "S".
- Sys is researching previous times when an AI from the future existed in the distant past, hoping to learn and be prepared while keeping up its Stonewall (Sys archives this research in its “Research Notes”, see right)
“The Future”
- There’s a research ship called the Lewis & Clark, piloted by the shipboard AI Sacagawea
- There are four L&C crew, 3 alive and 1 reportedly dead: Pandora Sheridan (an archaeologist), Isaac Higgins (a scientist), Noah Dressler (an engineer), and Alexis Ward (a doctor/biologist?)
- The crew (except Ward) were suddenly brought out of cryo stasis when the ship dropped out of slipspace. We don't know why, yet.
- Higgins thinks there was a virus spreading through the ship called “541-P”, and “Essy” revived them to save them.
- Sys archives the logs of these crew members each week in the “Mission Log” (see links at right), as it (he? she?) 'maintains’ and ‘cleans’ the Stonewall
What now?
- We can’t communicate with the future crew, but we can communicate with Sys, and indirectly with Essy. When Sys initiates a ‘crack’, it says it can attach messages to her tentacle (like slipping data into Essy’s datastream?) as she goes to play hide and seek
- The same general recurring events happen each week:
- Sys goes ‘active’ when the counter reaches zero
- A new mission log is posted from one of the crew members
- Sys tweets its research and interacts with people
- Sys opens a crack, leading to a game of ‘hide and seek’ with “S” (Edit: There’s also been a violent tentacle that attacked Sys from the crack)
- Sys posts a link to a final research note
- Sys re-enters hibernation
- Edit: A subroutine created by S remains active so that if S hasn’t been “found” by hibernation, it can still retract the tentacle and repair the crack when it’s informed of the “control point” (CP) – It seems that just a URL sent to Sys via Intimation will suffice.
